A Revolution On Every Corner
From its captivating rhythm to its vibrant, lived-in charm, Cuba is a destination that promises a truly unforgettable journey. You'll step into a living museum, where iconic classic American cars cruise alongside colonial architecture, telling tales of a complex and fascinating history. Despite periods of significant change, the country pulses with an undeniable spirit of resilience and creativity, a testament to its enduring soul.
Imagine strolling through the colourful streets of Old Havana, where the scent of cigars and the sound of salsa fill the air. Picture yourself exploring the lush tobacco fields of Viñales Valley or unwinding on the pristine, white-sand beaches. Or perhaps you'll find yourself diving into the crystal-clear waters off Varadero, a paradise for snorkelers and sun-seekers. And don't miss the vibrant energy of Santiago de Cuba, the heart of Afro-Cuban culture, alive with passionate music and dance.
Did You Know? Believe it or not, for nearly 30 years, Christmas was banned in Cuba! Fidel Castro's government essentially put a stop to it, partly to focus on the crucial sugar harvest. It wasn't until Pope John Paul II visited in 1997 that Christmas became a public holiday again.
Ethos Travel Advice: Cuba primarily operates on a cash-first basis, so you must bring plenty of physical foreign cash; don't rely on credit cards or ATMs. While the Cuban Peso (CUP) has an official exchange rate, you'll find a much better rate (2-3 times higher) on the informal market, widely used by both locals and savvy tourists.
